e are Raphael & Whitney, a husband-and-wife duo from Illinois who make music rooted in love, faith, and connection.
Our journey began at the University of Illinois, where Raphael met Whitney, a Champaign native. Over the years, we’ve grown together in life and music, shaped by shared values, incredible experiences, and a deep appreciation for the power of song.
Our artistry has been influenced by the soulful delivery of Aretha Franklin, the vulnerability and versatility of Marvin Gaye, the vocal brilliance of Whitney Houston, the richness and ease of Luther Vandross, the modern finesse of Usher and Brandy, and the timeless love and partnership of Ashford & Simpson. We blend classic Soul and R&B, gospel-rooted faith, and a contemporary polish in a way we hope feels both timeless and current.
Over the past 19 years, we’ve had the privilege of performing as background singers for artists such as Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Common, Queen Latifah, John Legend Chanté Moore, Giveon & more, and on stages including The Grammys, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The BET Awards, Coachella, Tiny Desk, The Roots Picnic & more. We were also grateful for the opportunity to appear on Season 11 of America’s Got Talent and to share our story and artistry with audiences across the country.
We are also passionate about helping others live on purpose, with purpose, and we offer coaching services that include Vocal & Performance Development, as well as Relationship and Life Coaching.
Above all, we’re grateful for our journey of Marriage & Music, and we hope our story inspires others to love God, appreciate the people in their lives, and cherish the gift of life.
